The Wooden Toys story
Wooden Toys Edinburgh started life back in 2014 as The Wooden Toys Playground, a baby and toddler group focused on young children’s engagement with sustainable, eco-friendly toys made from wood and other natural fibres.
At the heart of the group was the idea that children should have the opportunity to enjoy playtime with toys in traditional, earthy materials and the promotion of more sustainable play choices.
The original group took up residence in St Stephen’s Church in Comely Bank, Edinburgh and this has become its home every Thursday morning since.
In 2017, Regina Alonzi took over managing the group and whilst the concept of being a unique group with wooden and natural toys for babies and toddlers has stayed the same, a number of other significant changes have taken place, expanding and evolving Wooden Toys into what it is today.
Wooden Toys now has a permanent home, as of late 2018, in the form of a toy shop, playspace, and party and events place in Canonmills. The shop stocks toys and gifts in keeping with the Wooden Toys eco-friendly ethos, and includes many products from local designers and makers.
